Key responsibilities:

  • hire and supervise a team of 2 in charge of calculation and methodology of the Sberbank Proprietary Index platform;
  • build a robust and comprehensive index calculation methodology that is inspired by best international practices (several already in public domain);
  • indices to be set up will be mostly focused on equity baskets but with capacity to expand to other asset classes, including using derivatives as underlying. Complexity will range from simple static baskets to bespoke rules where weights are rebalanced according to a set of factors both internal (asset performance, volatility, company fundamentals …) and externals (economic indicators or other macro factors);
  • active participation in the Index Committee that approves the creation of new indices;
  • maintenance of the index calculation platform and independent decision making on how to apply index rules whenever there is a subject to interpretation (e.g. market disruptions, fallback mechanisms ...);
  • creation of a set of policies that dictates how the index process works (e.g. what data we can use / how we deal with disruptions / how we correct mistakes / how we deal with conflict of interest when making decision …). These policies will need to comply with IOSCO principles with a term objective to be also compliant with EU Benchmark Regulation rules;
  • you will work in close cooperation with the Structuring and Trading teams in Global Markets (who are responsible for generating new index proposals) and you will be able to leverage of their knowledge to establish the calculation methodologies and policies.

Qualifications required:

  • at least 5 years of experience, index related experience would be a strong plus;
  • understanding of financial securities mechanics and life cycle events;
  • project management experience;
  • strong verbal and written communication skills in both Russian and English;
  • strong attention to details;
  • education: Bachelor/Master degree equivalent in economics, finance, mathematics, physics or engineering.
